You are what you eat. We all know that a bad diet leads to obesity but did you know it leads to a variety of mental health issues. Low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, A person’s food intake affects mood, behavior, and brain function. It seems for many people, we have a hard time understanding that some foods can have a lasting influence on mood and mental wellbeing because of the impact they have on the structure and functioning of the brain.
For people with mental health issues, diet is rarely, if ever, considered an issue in their treatment. That is too bad. We would rather medicate with medications that only work 50% of the time rather than look at things we have absolute control over. The problem is, what sort of diet should we follow?
