Week 8

Week Eight Audio Message

Recap Putting it into Action

I cannot believe we have made it here together. We are on week eight and this week is simply a recap and a chance to go over what you have learned. First, let’s review. At this point we have:

Met with a physician and had a physical.
Created a budget and discussed our finances with the important people in our lives.
We worked on issues regarding anxiety and started using coping techniques discussed in the guidebook.
We are now taking time for ourselves with positive affirmations, yoga and mediation.
Learned and grew our self-esteem.
Looked at some options on our depression and learned some new ways of working with it.
We are getting exercise and maybe even spending quality time outdoors and with people in our lives with daily walks.
Helping out others selflessly by volunteering or doing random acts of kindness.
Gotten to know ourselves better.
We are planning out meals and eating healthier while enjoying food and meals.

WOW! That’s a lot of work in these eight weeks. In order for this program to work, you need to ask yourself have you done each one of the tasks that you were asked to do? I know it can be a constant battle, however, breaking this cycle of despair requires footwork and the determination to change your life. So pat yourself on the back.

The Beginning

Again, here we are at week eight having addressed the body, the mind and the spirit, congratulations! This week is different as we will focus on you expanding what you learned ant taking it to the next level.

The Body

The diet and yoga as well as the daily walks are all focused on the body. Is it time to expand on these. Let’s look at diet. Are you a good cook ? If not it is time to learn or perhaps you just want to learn to cook healthier or even for fun. Here a few resources.

Consider taking a class where you can meet people and learn to cook. Watch certain cooking shows that focus on healthy menus and how to prepare them. There are so many new shows out there that teach you great techniques.

Yoga and exercise, there are lots of opportunities to expand your yoga and exercise routine. Many were listed in the guidebook. I do want to suggest you check out you local community college they often have yoga classes that will go through the poses, but also talk about the philosophy of yoga.

This week I will accomplish the following to improve my body:

The Mind

In the last few weeks most of our focus on the mind has been dealing with changing negative thought patterns to positive, but there is so much more to the mind. To stimulate the mind read both fiction and nonfiction, take a class, or join a support group. You may also consider tutoring others. You may wish to join a book club or other activity and find things you can do so that it helps expand you social circle and your mind.
This week I will accomplish the following to stimulate and grow my mind:

Spirit

As I said before, spirituality is a personal path and is always growing and changing, just like we are. Continue to meditate to grow your spiritual path. If you want to expand on that try this.learningmeditation.com

Volunteering helps you help others which is a major step in our spiritual growth. If you need help finding volunteer work try this.

Maybe you can simply connect with others. I have found some of my greatest spiritual development came from a variety of groups and workshops or classes I have taken. I have also found that meetup.com has wonderful groups nationally that you can attend. Check it out. I believe it is a great resource for meeting people with common interests, whether it is going for a hike or changing the world, but please check it out.

It will be important to revisit the guidebooks anytime you feel you need a tune up. As I said, this work is an ongoing process and you need to be diligent about working on the skills you just discovered. Be sure to utilize these guidebooks as often as you can and continue to do the written exercises. You will be amazed at how often your answers will change and how your perception and insight will continue to change and grow.
You have done great work and I encourage you to continue working on you and as always, to walk in peace.

Final Message

Working on the despair cycle is an ongoing journey. You simply don’t read a book or guidebooks and magically it goes away. It is an ongoing effort and my hope is these guidebooks offered you some wonderful suggestions and exercises that you can continue to use to grow and feel healthier and happier. Freeing yourself from the chains that bind you or keep you stuck can be achieved only if you desire that outcome.

I know that people say “I do not choose to feel this way,” and perhaps you don’t, however, in order to break this cycle, you need to really make the choice to work diligently on yourself. Even happy people work hard to maintain their happiness.

Maintaining or creating happiness means you need to do a fair amount of questioning and exploring how you perceive yourself and the world around you. It does not mean how the world perceives you. That will be important to keep in mind. I have seen way too many people enter the despair cycle based on how the world sees them and not how they see themselves.

The other despair trap you need to watch for is belief systems. So many of our beliefs are false and some have been initiated by conditioning. Truth is most of our beliefs are influenced or perpetuated by society and the people in our lives. Breaking the cycle means reinventing yourself and this can only happen when you peel away the layers and examine the integrity and accuracy of your belief system.

In fact, working on yourself will be like peeling away thins layers of beliefs, habits, and concepts so you can walk free from the cycle. I want to offer you a few last minute tips.

Be around people whose glass is half full not half empty. Be around happy people.
Avoid drama. Stick to those who do not require drama and you will find yourself healthier and happier.
The desire to hang on to your concepts and depression, anxiety, fear, poor self-esteem will be great. Change requires that you are brave, bold and daring.
You are what you eat. Eat well and eat for the mind, the body and the spirit.
Meditate daily even if it is for ten to fifteen minutes, give the head a break!
Stay in the now. Do not revisit the past or walk in the future. By staying in the now you have the opportunity to see what is right in front of you.
At the end of each day write down three positive things that happened in your day.
Laugh. They say laughter is the greatest medicine, and it is!
Lighten up! Don’t take yourself or others so seriously.

I wish you only the best on your journey and now it is time to put all this into action. Remember you can contact me with any questions or comments and I want you to and as always, remember to walk in peaceā€¦
