beach Yesterday we talked a bit about coaching versus counseling but let’s talk a little more.You see with depression becoming the number one disability by 2020, and people struggling with life and decisions, yet they still struggle with the taboo of mental health counseling, mental health coaching, lie coaching or spiritual coaching is taking on a new life. It is much more affordable, it does not show up on your insurance, and people walk away feeling motivated and better.

What will Life Coaching NOT do?
Life Coaching will NOT provide the answers, only the person you are coaching can do that. No–one else can tell them what they truly want — only they know that!

How does Life Coaching differ from Counseling?
Both Counselors and Coaches listen, ask questions, raise awareness and move clients forward. However, counseling and therapy is more about treating a present problem or number of issues by looking into the past. Counseling and therapy more than likely will include psychiatry and diagnosis, and medication and life coaching doesn’t do any of that. Life Coaching is about moving from where you are today into a positive and healthy future.

Therapy tends to focus on finding the answers to questions from the past that have shaped who your you are today. Coaching helps you find the answers that are preventing you to move forward.In short, working with a coach means getting in action, implementing new skills, changes, or goals, and making sure that you get results and find ways to accomplish everything you need. That is why some counselors now say they are coaches, because they want to integrate the best of both worlds.

Coaching is motivational, inspiring, positive, exciting and action driven. By raising awareness and encouraging people to take responsibility for their life, life coaching can help people claim the opportunity to rise to their own particular challenges and go further than they ever thought possible because by seeing a coach, it  puts you in the driver’s seat of your own life.

Coaching can be defined as “an ongoing partnership that helps you produce fulfilling results in your personal life. Through the process of coaching,you deepen your learning and enhance your quality of life. No insurance, no medications, just natural healthy approaches.

The name ‘coaching’ uses a metaphor from the sports community, where coaching is an established activity. No team of athletes would consider trying to reach excellence without a coach. In being coached, one does not have to admit either to needing help or even to having a problem, so the shame-based feelings often triggered by counseling are by-passed. It is no disgrace to have a coach.

The word ‘therapy’ conjures up the notion that someone is in need of help or a cure. Coaching clients choose to work with a coach because they want to, not because they need to. Furthermore there is far more flexibility in the delivery of coaching.

The coaching process is the only human improvement process that focuses completely on the you. Life coaches are equal partners who assist you improve and grow as a person as the means to achieve your goals Do you want to find a high power? Redefine your spiritual growth? Do you need coaching to help you with your grief? How about a recovery coach to help you with your recovery? Need coaching for depression?

Well coaching taps into the power center both within the you and within the coach. Giving credence to this immaterial intelligence, coaches can aid clients in hearing the messages in their heart, supporting them to take action and effect changes from that place of inner strength no matter what the issue is.

Some styles of coaching keep the focus of attention on strategic or more pragmatic information and process. It’s best if a coach has the ability to use all sorts of tools in coaching sessions. Reasoning, intuition and strategy all have a place in masterful coaching.
